To complete most projects, additional building features are needed when structural components of a building are complete. Egress stairs are commonly steel framed and can be built with channel, plate, or tube-shaped stringers on either side of stair runs and have concrete filled pan systems, checkered plate, or grated treads and landings. Access stairs at roof and dock areas, are usually constructed similarly to egress stairs, with checkered plate, or grated treads & landings. At stairs, ramps, and other elevated areas, code compliant guardrails are necessary and carbon steel is a popular choice for design teams. Options for guardrails generally include 2-line rails with vertical pickets, wire-mesh panels, or perforated plates. Assist or “hand” rails are needed at most stairs & ramps, carbon steel pipe is a preferred material type for these rails. Numerous other building components can require steel support framing to achieve the proper rigidity. Standing partitions, operable partitions, overhead doors, counters, and vanities are among these components. In addition to these items, other miscellaneous needs for a building include access ladders, gate frames, and pipe bollards.
